The Rutgers Triathlon team is proud to host the 3rd Rutgers Indoor Triathlon!

"What's a Triathlon?"
A triathlon is a multiple sport endurance based event. They consist of a swimming, biking and running portion in which athletes will switch out their equipment in order to transition into the next leg of the race. Distances range from sprint distance (0.25-0.8mi swim, 9-13mi bike, 5k run) all the way to full ironman distance (2.4mi swim, 156mi bike, 26.2mi run).

The triathlon will take place on Sunday, October 27, 2018 from 11:30 am - 3:30 pm at the Weblin Recreation Center on the Busch Campus in Piscataway, NJ. The race will be judged according to a distance trial format using separate waves. Participants will have a specific amount of time to complete as far a distance as possible for each leg of the race: 10 minutes for the swim in the Olympic Pool, 15 minutes for transition 1, 30 minutes for the bike on a stationary spinning bike, 5 minutes for transition 2 and 20 minutes for the run outdoors on the Scarlet Knights Sports Club Field. The Rutgers Indoor Triathlon is open to participants of all levels and abilities and we encourage all beginners to Dare to Tri!

Top finishers will receive prizes; while all finishers will be awarded with an official Rutgers Indoor Triathlon T-Shirt!

11:30 AM - 12:00 PM - Packet Pick-up (Athletes will receive their race number, lane assignment and T-shirt)

Rules

Swim

  • Allowed 5 minutes to warm up in lane before your race

  • Participants will swim (race) for 10 minutes following Start command

  • Olympic Pool will be set up for 25yd. Lengths

  • Start in water (No Diving)

  • Each participant will use the swim lane assigned to their Lane Number

  • Each swimmer is given a ½ lane (total 16 swimmers allowed per heat)

  • A 2-minute to go horn will be sounded prior to the finish

  • Counters will count lengths completed

    • 1 length = 25yd ➤ 2 lengths = 50yd

    • Last length counted only if swimmer enters “red buoy zone”

Transition 1

  • Following swim, all participants will be directed to locker rooms

  • Swimmers will have 15 minutes to change into dry clothing and prepare for the bike portion (includes warm-up)

  • Wet clothing will NOT be worn outside of locker room

Bike

  • Participants will Spin for 30 minutes following start command

  • SPINNING© brand Spinner Aero© stationary bikes will be used

  • Each participant will use the bike assigned to their Lane Number

  • Volunteers will reset the pedometers at the race start (0 miles)

  • Resistance level may be set by participant

  • Time will be displayed on front wall of spin room

  • Volunteers will record final distance when time is complete

Transition 2

  • Participants will have 5 minutes to move from Spin room to the Field Area

Run

  • Each participant will run around the field (no warm-up)

  • Participants will run for 20 minutes following start command

  • Volunteers will be counting number of laps completed
